Completed Online Studies

Here you will find our online studies, which we were able to complete with the support of many children and families.

GrAttituDE-Study

GrAttituDE study: What criteria do children use to choose their friends? (survey completed)

Online study with an appointment for children between 5 and 10 years old

We are grateful that so many of you took part in this study! We are now finished with the data collection and are evaluating the data.

In the study, we examine the criteria children in different age groups use to choose their friends and what role certain characteristics such as gender, skin color or age play. The children were guided through various playful tasks. First we showed our young participants photos of other children and the participant was asked to rate how likeable they found the other children. Then we always presented two people next to each other and the child was supposed to show which of the two they liked better.

Wikinger Study

Wikinger studie: How does language influence the perception of belonging? (survey completed)

Online study with an appointment for children between 6 and 13 years old

We are grateful that so many of you took part in this study! We are now finished with the data collection and are evaluating the data.

We examine which aspects of language children use to draw conclusions about the group membership of other people. For this purpose, children aged 6 to 13 were able to click through different scenarios in which other children talk about themselves and their social groups, for example their campsite or their village. The child would then answer a few questions about the children and groups presented.

Pointing behaviour

Questionnaire about the development of poining behaviour (survey completed)

Study without an appointment for children between the ages of 3 and 24 months

We are grateful that so many of you took part in this study! We are now finished with the data collection and are evaluating the data.

As part of a cross-cultural comparison study, we examined how the pointing gesture develops between the ages of 3 and 24 months. With our questionnaire we wanted to find out in which situations children point to objects or people. To do this, parents observed their child for a few days and then indicated in our questionnaire how often they had seen their child pointing in a certain situation during this time. The study was also carried out in Turkey and China, among others.

Search for clues

Searching for clues: How do children learn and how do they predict social group characteristics? (survey completed)

Study with an appointment for children between the ages of 3 and 9 years

We are grateful that so many of you took part in this study! We are now finished with the data collection and are evaluating the data.

With this study, we examine how children aged 3 to 9 years learn and predict social group characteristics (e.g. play liking, activities or preferences). In addition, the children can play small games online in which we introduce the children to various fictitious groups and their characteristics. The children are then asked to predict the characteristics of a new group member.
